For the last 5 or 6 years, my husband and I have gone off hiking for our anniversary. We’ve hiked in Wisconsin and Acadia National Park in Maine, but mostly we find ourselves in our favorite White Mountains in New Hampshire.

I wish I could emphasize how monumental this moment was for me. After my accident, I was still holding on to the hope that I would someday be hiking 4,000 footers again even with the chronic pain. After taking the Cog Railway up Mount Washington, the next day of our anniversary vacation we decided to visit Crawford Notch and hike Mount Willard. It is a popular 3.2 mile out and back trail that would be moderate for beginners/easy for experienced hikers. The trailhead is located across the train tracks of the railroad depot at AMC Crawford Notch Visitors Center.

My go-to destination for hiking has always been the White Mountains in New Hampshire. There are so many trails for all levels and many opportunities for mountain range views. It’s absolutely beautiful! And I’ve been dying to get back there.
